Calling all tree huggers
I know you're out there! So dig out your latest, greatest, tree-related posts and send them to me for the June Festival of the Trees. After all, you aren't going to let those guys at 10000 Birds who hosted the May edition have the last word on trees, are you? :)
Email the permalink to your blog post or photo set by May 29 to jlblum [at] wrenaissance [dot] com, with “Festival of the Trees” in the subject line, or, as always, avail yourself of the handy online submission form.

Runaway Bunny

It amazes me that I can be out on the deck for several minutes, and it's only when I stop and focus my attention on the rabbit that he pays any attention to me. I'm humming, moving furniture, knocking dirt of the railing, and he munches away unperturbed. Pick up a camera ever so quietly, and Crusader Rabbit rides off into the sunset in the blink of an eye.
A person could get a complex.

Maybe it really is spring, after all
In addition to the higher grass, I'm seeing critters that remind me of the joys of the season.
Momma Robin has settled in on her nest.
She's quiet in this photo, but both parents scold and fuss when I walk by in the yard or open the patio door. Oh, well, it's not like I want to sit out on the patio, just because the weather's getting nice.
The first groundhog of the season.
Can you tell our neighbor has plowed his field?
This one's a new addition to the yard life list: a wild turkey.
And notice, no snow anywhere!

Watching the Grass Grow
If you compare these to the ones from a week earlier, you'll see that the grass is getting taller still.

Wetlands up close last week
This picture was taken April 20, around two weeks after the one I posted Saturday. As you can see, the grass grows quickly this time of year, and there's now much less open water.
